Jaclyn McBeth cannot live in daylight.
Confined to a nocturnal life due to a rare genetic disorder inherited from her mother, Jaclyn can only read of the life and friendships she longs for. Her parents reluctantly agree to let her enroll in a school attended by creatures of the night, where she must keep up with her classes while coming to terms with the existence of strange, fantastical species, and balance her intrigue with her safety.
